Mtwara Region:

Mtwara in southern Tanzania is a rarely visited part of the country near the Mozambique border. The region offers excellent beaches, some world class diving in Mnazi bay Marine Park - possibly the best in Tanzania, the spectacular scenery of the Mkonde Plateau (home of the famous Mkonde wood carvers), and Rondo Plateau, the old town of Mikandani and the Newala Game Reserve also the starting point of DR. Livingstone voyage, Mikindani is a tiny Swahili town on the Southeastern coast, which was once a major port and trading post.

The area is excellent for picturesque; its also stunning vistas vibrant and colorful market as well as water ports and leisure.  Along the coast, divers and snorkellers can revel in the pristine beauty of the reefs in the Mnazi Bay Marine Reserves, which also offers holidaymaker's miles upon miles of magnificent white beaches.

Beyond Mikindani lies a number of interesting sports; among them is Ruvuma River to the south a home to hippos and crocs and a wealth of bird life and also Lukwila- lumesule Game Reserve to the southwest, one of the least frequently visited reserves in Africa a home to lions, leopard, hippos, crocodile and some antelopes.
