Moshi is set at the foot base of Mount Kilimanjaro at 890 metrs above sea level, from town, peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi can be seen all over. The area is fertile and the Chagga people near by grow Arabica coffee. Many people use Moshi as a base for Kilimanjaro trekking. Kilimanjaro International Air Port is 35 km half way to the west, on to an hour drive for Arusha and also 3 hours drive into Nairobi Kenya via Arusha town.

Marangu: Is a small and attractive town on the slopes of Mountain Kilimanjaro about 40 km northeast of Moshi, is also serving as a convenient overnight stop for those trekking Kilimanjaro on Marangu route. It also makes a good base for cultural tourism; day and overnight hikes on Mt. Kilimanjaro lower slopes where modern hotels and shops are available.
